Apple requires the use of app-specific passwords when connecting Apple e-mail accounts to third parties like Bark. The e-mails connected with this method end in,, or This means that if your child's iCloud account ends in, for example, then you will connect the e-mail to Bark via the Gmail connection rather than the iCloud e-mail connection.

NOTE: Connecting the iCloud e-mail to Bark only monitors e-mails sent and received not iPhone text messages. To monitor iPhone texts and more, see here!

Get Started

STEP 1: Enable two-factor authentication for the iCloud account.

To connect the Apple e-mail account to Bark, you will have to enable two-factor authentication for the child's account first if you haven't already. For more information from Apple on the benefits and features of two-factor authentication, see here!

If you're using iOS 10.3 or later, you can enable two-factor authentication by following the steps below on your child's phone:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > Password & Security
  2. Tap Turn On Two-Factor Authentication.
  3. Tap Continue.

If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, you can enable two-factor authentication by following the steps below on your child's phone:

  1. Go to Settings > iCloud
  2. Tap your Apple ID > Password & Security
  3. Tap Turn On Two-Factor Authentication.
  4. Tap Continue.

NOTE: You might be asked to answer your Apple ID security questions.

You will then be prompted to enter and verify your trusted phone number, as seen below:

Now that you've enabled two-factor authentication on your child's phone, you can give it back to them. We're going to follow the next steps from a computer (easiest) or your own phone, whichever you prefer!

STEP 2: Visit the Apple ID account page and log in with your child's account.

Navigate to on your favorite web browser. 

Then, log in to your child's Apple ID account page with their Apple ID and password.

STEP 3: Generate app-specific password.

To generate the app-specific password needed to add your child's account to Bark, scroll down to Security.

  • Under the Security section, you'll see App-Specific Passwords
  • Click on Generate Password
  • Type in Bark and then click Create
  • A long password will be generated on the next screen. This is what we need to connect the account to Bark!
  • Highlight the password.
  • Right-click and Copy the password, as seen below:

STEP 4: Return to your Bark parent dashboard.

  • Scroll down and click Add Account for that child, as seen below:
  • Select iCloud under the e-mail category.
  • Paste the password into the app-specific password field, as seen below:
  • Click Connect.

That's it! 

You should now see the iCloud e-mail account for your child was successfully connected for the monitoring of its e-mails sent and received on your Bark parent dashboard.

It will be displayed in the list of connections for your child on the dashboard, and can be identified by the iCloud icon seen below:
