This article will cover how to use Bark for Schools as reviewer. 

We developed Bark for Schools with school officials in mind. As such, it is a simple-to-use but incredibly powerful tool for helping your efforts to keep students safe on school-issued accounts and technology.

The very first page you'll see is the dashboard and everything can be navigated from the top right drop-down menu (where your name is located):

1. Dashboard

The dashboard will provide high level statistics around the groups that have been assigned to you. 

There are a few sections to the dashboard that we'll cover here from top to bottom:

Activities Analyzed:  This represents all activity we've seen since Bark for Schools was turned on. The data here will reflect all turned on groups for monitoring - not just your class(es). 

Issues to Review: This represents any issues outstanding for the groups assigned to you. If there is a number here, there is an issue that has been detected but hasn't been looked at by administration.


The reports section allows you a glimpse of what is occurring across the groups assigned to you, from a statistical standpoint. 

In the image above, we've identified some key sections:

A) This area provides an issue count by day.

B) The pie chart shows an issue by type breakdown.

C) The date range field is adjustable and applies to all areas of the report.

D) You can search by a group, or choose one of the groups displayed by issues generated, in descending order. Clicking into one of these gives a classroom level view of the reporting data, broken down by student name.

2. Review Issues

This page is where you'll be able to review what Bark has identified as inappropriate or potentially harmful for a student. We provide a number of filtering options to allow you to get to data very quickly.

In the image above, we've identified some key sections:

A) A filter that can be applied to sort by Category - such as violence, cyberbullying, and sexual content. (list isn't exhaustive)

B) Filter by groups. If you have more than one group (or class, grade) assigned to you, you can filter out by group.

C) Filter by the name of the student. First or last name works here.

D) Filter by account type. If on G Suite, that will be Gmail, Drive, or Chrome. If on Microsoft 365, that will be Outlook, OneDrive, or OneNote.

E) Display by status. If an issue has been reviewed by any administrator, the issue can be reviewed by checking the "Reviewed" box. Any viewed issue will have a timestamp and name of the user that reviewed it.

F) Filter by Other. The flagged only category refers to a "review later" function within an issue (displayed below). This allows you to return to an issue quickly. The severe filter allows you to target any identified severe issue. A severe issue is an issue that has hit a threshold in a category and are more actionable.

3. Chromebooks

This page is informational and doesn't serve a function within your day-to-day use of Bark for Schools. 

We have it on the menu so that you know it is an option that we support (if it's not already enabled), if your administration needs to watch the searches, webpage visits, and webpage titles a student is engaged in while logged into their student account.

If this option is already enabled, issues will come in through the "review issues" page, under the Chrome icon (alongside Gmail and Drive) as shown:

4. Profile

This page allows you to update user name, emergency contact number, and email preferences.

Be sure to click Save after making any changes.

NOTE: Bark for Schools does not recommend disabling email alerts, doing so could result in a critical miss of a potentially imminent alert.
