Guest Mode is a feature on Google Chrome that allows someone to browse the web without being signed in to an account. Because Bark's Chrome monitoring follows your child's account, disabling guest mode ensures Bark will be monitoring their Chrome web browsing on your child's computer.
Each platform has different steps, so we've put together guides for Windows, Mac, and Chromebooks:
- How to Disable Chrome Guest Mode on Chromebooks
- How to Disable Chrome Guest Mode on Windows
- How to Disable Chrome Guest Mode on Mac (instructions below)
Instructions for Mac
Watch this video to learn how to disable Chrome Guest Mode on a Mac. If you'd like some additional tips — or if the video doesn't play — follow the step-by-step instructions written below.
STEP 1: Start by pressing Shift + Cmd + U to bring up the Utilities folder on your Mac.
NOTE: You can also find the Utilities folder in Finder > Applications.
STEP 2: Double-click on Terminal.
STEP 3: Copy and paste the following command into Terminal and press Enter:
defaults write com.google.Chrome BrowserGuestModeEnabled -bool false
STEP 4: Copy and paste the following command into Terminal and press Enter:
defaults write com.google.Chrome BrowserAddPersonEnabled -bool false
STEP 5: Force-quit Chrome. Then, re-open it from your Applications folder.
Now, both Guest Mode and the ability for your child to add additional email accounts/profiles is disabled on Chrome. Success!
Re-enable Guest Mode
If you ever want to re-enable Guest Mode later, you can follow these same steps but simply replace the word "false" in the commands with the word "true," and you'll be good to go!
